Earlier in class, I was playing Pac-Man on my TI-84 Plus CE Python calculator when it suddenly crashed. It gave me an error message about memory, saying: "Memory is insufficient to perform the calculation. Check for infinite recursions or loops. EX: Y1=Y1."
I tried connecting it to my PC, but it won't connect anymore, although it did a few minutes ago. When I press restart on the calculator, it reboots but brings me back to the same error page. It says to press 1 to quit, but when I press 1, it glitches and goes back to the same screen.
What should I do?
Press the reset button on the back of the calculator and hold it down for 5 seconds. This will wipe the calculator's memory, deleting any variables in RAM.
Ive done it but it still sends me back to the same screen. "1:quit" and when i press 1 it just glitches and goes back to the same error page and press 1 and same crap.
I also tried to hard reset it but nothing happens
Hold 2nd, del, and the reset button. It'll take you to the OS resend screen. Or try taking the battery out.
Tried that aswell nothing it just sends me back to the error page. I cant get the battery out rn but is there anything else that could work I need this calc.
On that boot screen (from 2nd+del while resetting), press the [clear] button to erase the flash, then reinstall the OS from TI Connect CE.
Worst case scenario is you'll have to wait for the battery to die but that's unlikely, and taking the battery out will have the same effect anyway so idrk why you would have to do that. It'll probably take longer for the battery to die than for you to find a screwdriver, though. Also taking the battery out won't erase anything other than RAM so don't worry about that.
Whats the boot screen I've always been stuck on one screen i cant change it unless i press the reset butten then it says validating OS and straight back into the screen i described above... I have that ti connect app open and its actively trying to connect to my calc but it takes like 10 years then it says it cant connect to it becuase of like it not responding or smt along those lines.
The boot screen is the "Validating OS..." screen.
No, the boot screen is a separate thing. It should say "Waiting... Please install operating system now. Press [clear] to erase all storage." 2nd and del don't open a menu or anything, you just hold them while resetting to do this. I had this problem a while back and iirc this worked.
Edit: removed a response
On a separate note, there used to be a way to boot without loading the flash memory (archive.) I think it was replaced with the aforementioned "clear" function. But if it still exists, would that help at all...?
Well, actually I think the boot screen is the validating OS screen so you're right, but I'm referring to the OS resend screen.
When i press reset it puts me on that validating screena and after a moment it sends me back to that error screen. From there ive done all the things you guys sugested and it still has no impact?
You need to press the reset button on the back while holding 2nd and del the whole time.
IS there some sign to tell me when somthing works or smt?
Wait never mind its fixed ram is cleared. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!
👍 No problem. This has happened to me several times.
It's really scary when you think that your calculator has completely gone away, I agree. TI's calculators are NOT cheap (even when they should be,) are required by nearly every US school (even when they shouldn't be,) and if you're still in school that calculator might be your lifeline.
