How do you compile C code to ti 84 plus ce compatible files

I want to start coding in c for my ti 84 plus ce, but can't find how or to what filetype you have to compile. Is this .8xp, and how do you do it?
You'll want to use the CE C toolchain. Make sure to read Getting Started and Building your first program.
