For those who don't know, there is a version of the GBA SP that has a front light (launch), and a later model that features a much better backlit LCD (The AGS-101).

101 model SP's tend to be expensive to purchase because of this. It is also possible to install a 101 backlit LCD in an older SP, however there is significant cost associated with this.

I found some information online about inserting a resister between some points on the PCB.
