I hope I can get done, life is really busy. I've come far enough that I have invested a good amount of work into it.

I wish I could ask for an extension, but I have no excuse other than the "life is busy" excuse.

Due to the notable lack of completed or nearly completed entries thus far, I will be extending the contest by a week, so that it ends on May 8th.
Good luck, everybody!

When you say "You cannot copy or use part of any other program, and no program previously published is eligible; this has to be entirely new." ... does this include sprite/tilemap routines and other specialised graphics routines that may form a part of a different (unreleased) project? I guess people are allowed to make use of sprite functions in clibs etc right?
I have an idea for something that I could *possibly* make a demo of in the next week (to get me back into the spirit of calc coding ) ... but I'm not sure if it adhere's to the rules...
Namely instead of customising the avatar, the idea is more about the avatar customising (well ... I guess you could call it customising) the game world instead?

The C libraries are libraries specially designed to be used and copied from, and I think that disallowing said libraries would go against my other "for any language, on any platform" rule, because it strongly penalizes entries in C.
Specialized graphics routines from other programs are different because they are not published libraries. One thing I've certainly learned is to not get lazy and just copy last contest's rules- they are full of holes!
It seems I've been allowing games like what you're describing, namely commandblockguy's. The only difference is that his doesn't have a avatar (besides the mouse), and gameplay is entirely based on how you modify your world.

Reminder that there's one week left to submit a program! No more extensions.

So it's been a week, wasn't voting suppose to begin today? What's going one behind the scenes?
I'm awaiting the collection of entries from Kerm- he said he'd get them to me by 3:00PM EDT. I've started writing the post already, using the programs submitted in the archives. I'll likely be home by 4:00PM EDT
The post should be written and posted by 5 PM EDT.
Sorry for the delay, I have school things to do today :)
