I currently have an early TI-81 with coarse ribbon cable failure, most of the connections are upwards of 18 ohms and the lower half of the screen is faint. Should I bother "reflowing" the ribbon cable with a hot air gun or go straight to replacing it with small wires?
Replacing with IDC cable works well, like this:


I don't know about reflowing though, never tried it.
My recent attempt at blowing the cable with hot air was less than successful, so I will take your advice of using an IDC cable to replace it.
