I'm new here, so I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place for the question, let me know if it's not. I have a TI84 CE+, and have no problem getting games made specifically for the CE (with color and all) to download and work. When I try to download an older TI84 game however (like the black and white or greyscale ones made for the older TI84s), I am able to get them onto the calculator, but when I try to run them with Asm(), they come up with an error that says I tried to call and undefined variable or something similar, and the same thing happens with any game of the type. Anything I'm missing? Or can you simply not use the older games on the newer calculators, which I find unlikely since the TI Basic code should work the same?

Assembly programs are very specific to the platforms they run on. You're getting those errors because if the calculator actually tried to run the program, you'd get a crash. That way lies nothing but failure and sadness.

The hardware between the monochrome 84+, the CSE, and the CE are different enough (in some cases, wildly so) that modifications to the source and reassembly would be necessary. BASIC programs don't suffer from this since they're interpreted by the calculator's OS, not executed directly.

Thanks for the information. Does anyone know anyways to get over this hurdle, or is it impracticable without using a different calculator, and will I wallow in the limited world of newer CE games only?

It's not exactly limited. Which programs are you looking for specifically?

For example something like one of this http://tiwizard.com/downloads/maze-3d-ii/ or anything similar. Thing is that I discovered that regular TI 84 games are in a huge abundance compared to CE.

So something like this? https://www.cemetech.net/programs/index.php?mode=file&id=1588

Well yes; the CE has only existed for 3 years while the monochrome versions for about 20 :p
Welcome to Cemetech, HydroX!

Sadly, cross-compatible Asm programs are impossible, but some projects like this have attempted to bring certain mono games to the color calculators.

Some TI-BASIC games, however, can use some special tricks for cross-compatibility between models cough like Descent cough.

I would say that the best way to get your favorite games on the color calculators is to make them yourself. I've done this myself, and although it's quite a bit of work, it's really rewarding.

Alright, I might look into recreating the games as you suggested JWinslow23, sounds like a good way to learn

If you need any help, I too have done a little in cross compatibility. If JWinslow23 isn't around feel free to ask me. Smile
Writing games like these are a bit challenging but it's fun!

You can look at Patrick Davidson's Cellar 3D for now.Smile
