And imagine the electricity that would suck up - 1kW Shock

TWO 1,000w psu = 2kw Rolling Eyes - but it'll only use what is needed by the hardware + a little extra for power lost to heat
Oh, that's true. Still, that's roughly equivalent to 20 100-watt light bulbs or 33 60-watt lightbulbs.

a lightbulb is horridly inefficent as it is, but why would you compare the power draw of a lightbulb to a computer?!?!?
Just to underscore that you could light 11 rooms with the power used by this computer. Smile

bah, try this system on for size:

2xPC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW EPS12V 1000W Power Supply 100 - 240V - $939.98

Total Price: $46,290.92

And for those who don't want to read through all that, here is the specs:

8 x Athlon Opteron 2.4ghz cores (32- and 64-bit)
32gb Ram
10TB storage
4 x 30" LCD displays
2 x 7900GTs (overclocked)
4 x DVD Burners

Theoretically, this all SHOULD work....lol

It would even leave open 2 PCI-X 100mhz slots! (so you could get even more hdd's if you really wanted too..) The motherboard also supports up to 64gb of ram, but I didn't find any 4gb sticks of ram to stick in its 16 slots...

Oh, and I didn't get the Quadro FX because its slower than a reg 7900GT at things like games, quadro's are made for 3d rendering like 3dsmax and such (in fact, the difference between the two are largely just in the drivers), and if I got that system you better believe that its for games Laughing

This computer will only work with Datacenter Server , which is availible only as OEM. If you drop down to 8GB RAM, then you can run Advanced Server (This is for 32bit Windows)

screw 32bit windows, i'd put gentoo on that beast (and dual boot it with winXP 64-bit)
