(1) AWG refers to the thickness of a wire. The higher the number, the thinner the wire.
(2) There's no such thing as a "GPIO wire", per se. In your case, you either need female connectors to go onto the RPi's pins, or you need to solder directly to the pins. I recommend the former.

Would http://amzn.to/1cSf1OZ work? It doesn't seem like it would be possible to solder to the female connectors.
