In that short time span, this is the result: Blub's Asciiquarium.

A KDE screensaver of this will follow soon.

Video of the perl script running:
gotta love dat ASCII. and those dolphins (/sharks?).
There are dolphins, ducks, sailboats, whales, seamonsters (non-hostile), and swans. Video will be posted soon.

Blender, for your ASCII and 3D needs!
I am extremely impressed that you managed to throw this Perl script together in the space of about 10 minutes. Did you base it on an existing project of yours or someone else's, or did you write it completely from scratch?

Edit: And if it reaches an Ubuntu-compatible screensaver format, I will definitely use it on my office desktop.
For fun, I think I'll throw together a similar program on the Ti-84, maybe the CSE. Looks fun!
It's just asciiquarium from here http://www.robobunny.com/projects/asciiquarium/asciiquarium.tar.gz modified to use Blub Wink
