Hello, I'm not sure if this fits under hardware but it may need some to answer my question. I'm basically making a text program on my calculator and I ran out of RAM

I want to know whether I can add ram without archiving anything.

No, there is no way to add more RAM to the calculator. You just have to put things in Archive and have them in RAM as needed.

You could potentially use a utility like XCOPY to work with archived programs better, or you could use the DCS7 BASIC libs that come with DCS7 to do the same http://dcs.cemetech.net/index.php?title=Main_Page

I do indeed recommend that you use the Doors CS libraries to archive and unarchive documents. Not to discourage you from making your editor, you should do so anyway, but have you seen my Document DE?

Well, if you were clinically insane, you could always use some archive as swap space

If you were even more insane, you would use msd8x... for a text program

There is some extra RAM: 128 K on some calculators and 48 K on the others. If we put 8K aside for processing, then we have 120K and 40K left, respectively. The question is if TI is going to grant the extra 96K/16K RAM for data. They probably wouldn't, though, but you could always ask TI.

About archiving and unarchiving, the Flash memory has a limited lifespan - it can be written and erased to 100,000 times. So archiving and Garbage Collecting (note: "unarchiving" does not delete the archived copy) will slowly wear down the Flash. So your goal is to minimize the Archive/UnArchive/GarbageCollect command usage.
