I am trying to jailbreak my Ipodtouch 2nd generation, without using a computer. I know it can be done, because my friend jailbroke his 1st gen without using a computer, but he wants to charge me $5 to have him do it. I am trying to save $5. Smile
I don't see why you'd so adversarial to the idea of using a computer, you clearly have access to one, since you're posting on this site, and it would still do the same thing without spending any money.

Welcome to the age of smartphones and tablets with internet capabilities, where have you been, under a rock by any chance?
Well I am trying to learn it so I can charge also. I can't do it on my computer because; 1: I don't have a cord, 2: I don't want to buy one

Smile hehehe I am on a pc. Smile
Go to http://jailbreakme.com, if you're running iOS 4.3.3 or earlier.
I have been there. How do I know what my iOS is? I tried using (redsnow?) and it wouldn't work.

You can find your iOS version by going to Settings->General->About on your device.

I am assuming I have a higher iOS because jailbreakme.com didn't work, or help.
My ipod is dead so I cannot check Sad
The 2nd Gen touch can't run ios4.

Also, this topic may be on the blacker edges of the forum rules. But, I'll let the other admins decide that since I can't get any information on the matter.

That means I have iOS less than 4.3, Which that means I can do it off of jailbreakme, but I can't figure that out.
I should indeed mention that pirating is against forum rules. I'm not sure where I should rule on jailbreaking. It's against Apple's Terms of Service, and it can nullify your warranty, but I'm not sure if it's illegal. If it is, then this topic needs to stop now, but if not, I've expressed my dislike of Apple's closed development environment enough that I think I would support this endeavor. Anyone know?
If it is illegal, I am sorry. I don't know if it is or not.
No, you have less than 4.0.

No method exists for the older firmwares. You'll have to convince a friend to borrow their computer while at their place then find an archived program of the software as it may not support older firmware versions. Do check that though.

Also, you are not going to gain much by jailbreaking a second generation iPod touch that far behind in the iOS line. I could be wrong though. You'd be better off saving up for the current iPod touch.

Kerm, jail breaking was ruled in favour if hackers. Apple cannot sue over users jailbreaking their devices. It's also not pirating, it may open the door to pirating, but it itself is not. Iirc.

Jailbreaking is not illegal, there was actually a DMCA exemption specifically approved to allow jailbreaking.

The 2nd Genetation iPod touch can run iOS 4 until iOS 4.2.1, I believe.
Then carry on; open software platforms benefit everyone.,

JailbreakMe works on all iOS versions until 4.3.3. Wink
I'm not so sure, but I'll look into it when I get home.

If he has an iOS version older than 3.1.2, zelda is SOL unless he can update. Sadly, Apple no longer has those on their server, but they are archived else where, so Zelda could force update if the server will still authenticate the OS.
I don't think it is exactly illegal, but my prefered method would be buy an android internet tablet and then not have to worry about jailbreaking or anything of the like Wink

Oh, thanks for correcting me. Zelda, if you can't get JailbreakMe to work, try going to http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com/.
Sounds good I will try that tomorrow.
