I just saw this article on Wired, http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/06/lytro-camera-lets-you-focus-photos-after-you-take-them/

Pretty nifty tech involved with that. I think it is too bad we probably won't get a look at the algorithms they're using. It also seems like this isn't far removed from being able to do things like record holographic data directly to digital medium.
I just saw this last night over on PetaPixel. I think it's pretty neat that it's able to record the direction the light vectors are coming in.

If it's low enough - est price between 1 & $10000 - I'll be picking one up. But that is, if it's around 1 to $600. Also, if you'd like more pictures to play with:

If you get one, make sure you take some pictures for us to show off the awesome =D
That's the stupidest price range in the world.
I think this isn't too far from what Microsoft did a while ago, except not calling it "shoot first, focus later":

If you read how it works, it is quite different. This has nothing to do with motion sensing.
Oh, didn't realize that. I've just read it and it's quite neat. Focus anywhere vs. blur/unblur, eh?
My biggest question is whether we still have to select the aperture or if we'll be able to adjust the range of the focal point in post as well.

The examples aren't exactly perfect as well. Obviously, it's just for demo purposes but it'd be neat if there were more places to see the ability than just two or four. Like in the beach scene, you can either select the diver or the background. Clicking anywhere in the background focuses everything, what about the waters edge that's focused and everything else isn't? Again, that depends entirely on the aperture and the distance from the waters edge.

If you watch some of the videos you'll see they can focus everything as well. I doubt this would have an adjustable aperture - that would be pretty pointless other than to reduce the effectiveness of the system.

True, as a narrow aperture would allow for less light vectors to enter. Though, an electronic aperture would be pretty cool.

If the minimum aperture required to operate is, say, 3.5 it'd be even cooler if a mechanical aperture could be as fast as 2.0 so those of us who do like to control most of the camera functions, or at least the aperture. As long as the (likely) fixed aperture is a fast one, f/2 or faster, I'd be happy.
