Definitely, it's fun both offering encouragement as you make progress and helping with ASM skills and tricks, especially for a new coder such as yourself.
Hello everyone, my (screenname) is Bendito999. I've been programming on my TI 84 + SE for about 1 and a half years (although somewhat intermittently). I started out when I bought the graphing calculator during the summer for the math classes in my freshman year. However, after exploring the calculator and its functions for a bit, I found that it could do more than just simple math. I turned on the CtlgHelp, and delved into the menus beneath the PRGM button. I had no previous programming experience, but after much scrolling through the catalog for syntax, and a little bit of trial and error, I was on my way programming. I started to make some matrixy screensavers in TI-Basic, and then started working on various math programs and eventually an analog clock and a fully interactive wordsearch game. The TI calculator has introduced me to programming, and it is awesome. Because of my interest in programming, I was "recruited" as the programmer for the local FRC robotics Team Rock 2000 (the robot runs on LabView).

I plan to learn Axe and eventually assembly. A future project that I am thinking about for the calculator is a quadraphonic piano. There have been some single note pianos, but those can't play chords. However, I would need to learn assembly first.
BTW, I love DCS7 and the MT3 converter. I'm going to try out the direct usb Calcnet connection soon, too, (it sounds totally epic.) Keep up the good work Kerm Martian! Smile

Some other hobbies that I enjoy are playing the trumpet and playing Minecraft (if you can call that a real hobby). I'm planning out a large addition/subtraction machine in Minecraft out of redstone (for those of you who have time to play Minecraft). It will be expandable for however large a value is desired, and will feature a screen composed of 7-segment displays.
Welcome to Cemetech, Bendito! I hope you post about your upcoming projects in the Your Projects subforum. Smile

I think that very many of us started the exact same way, myself definitely included. Smile

Nice job, congrats!

Awesome, I look forward to us helping! You should really just learn ASM (in my opinion); we have many gurus here who would be more than happy to help you learn ASM.

We have a lot of Minecraft enthusiasts here, for better or worse. I have two degrees in Electrical Engineering, so everyone has been bugging me to get Minecraft and build redstone creations, but thus far, I have resisted. Smile

Thanks for that long and extremely well thought-out introduction. Would you care to perhaps elaborate at all, especially since my response to your introduction is about thirty times as many words as your introduction itself, and perhaps two or three hundred times as many letters?

I can do that! I had to start off with hi first :/

Uh, I've been here for a few years, first heard about cemetech from UTI back when they were really active. Technically i started at UTI, migrated to omnimaga irc, found cemetech more on IRC and actually registered an account here. I was lurking before that though for a while. I was drawn here by the ultimate calculator mods, and simms. Both were very interesting, and still are. I started a calc mod of my own, i just lose interest really quick, which is sad since i have all the parts on my desk to complete it, i just need to actually work on it and finish it. Currently i dont code anything, as i dont really know any languages, just enough to know what going on in simple programs and thats about it. I recently started working on my site again, which hasn't taken off much since i haven't had too much time to devote to it due to school and working all the time. I think that covers it for the most part. Interests of mine are calc modding, computer mods, WoW ( though not so much any more, i hardly play just casual not hardcore or anything.) I also have my own minecraft server and play that a decent amount as most of you know.
Welcome to Cemetech, rcfreak0! Razz I'm surprised to see that you've only been a member for a year and a half; I though you had been here a lot longer. I was always under the impression that you were, after UTI, solely a Cemetech member, and then Omnimaga wrenched you away from us. Smile Do you have any interest in learning various languages? I'm sure if you did, people here would be more than happy to nudge and guide you in the right direction. Smile

Thanks! Im surprised too, i thought Ive been here longer. I must've just lurked here for a long time before actually creating an account. I'm pretty sure it went from UTI, to omnimaga for IRC then eventually i found out you guys had a IRC channel, but you were still not active on it much at the time either. I wasn't never really active on here, nor on omni post wise. But i do keep up with what is happening. I think UTI still hold my highest post count anywhere, which isn't high to begin with Razz. As for programming, i wish i knew more basic, and ive always wanted to learn PHP more and C# or C++
Well, we can certainly help you with all of those here, so I hope you'll poke us if you're so inclined. Smile

I will if i do decide to actually try to learn a language. Smile

I find that it's often good to learn a language when motivated by a particular program that you want to write; are there any specific PHP or C/C++ projects that you have in mind?

Hmm, not really. Ive always wanted to re-write jarvis so hes in a actual language and not a mirc bot, but that might take a while.
It would be somewhat straightforward in either C++ or PHP, since both have IRC libraries and even IRC bot libraries, but personally my preference is now Python for IRC bots.

Yeah i started in php then got confused by something and stopped. How easy is python?
If you're familiar with PHP, C/C++, or even Java, I think it's relatively trivial to pick up Python. The hardest thing about it is strict whitespacing, but I type strict whitespace in my C/C++ and my PHP anyway, so it's no big deal.

Alright cool, I'll have to look into some tutorials then take over #cemetech with jarvis.

That sounds like a plan. I'd definitely recommend diving into some code at the same time; I find that that's the best way to understand a new language, at least for me.
