There are numerous resources available on this nifty little device, and from what I've read, the camera head itself connects to the cartridge through a single I/O port, so what I'm wondering is, could the output from this camera be read and displayed(and possibly stored) on a TI-graphing calculator? I have two of these is anyone wants to play with this idea.
It would certainly be possible, but it would need a massive amount of storage to store the picture. Also, I think the link port is slow, so the picture will probably be blurred.
I would think the picture could be stored as 3 pics if you're doing 4-level gray-scale, one for each layer above the white. Or you could go for even less color depth and just do monochrome, which would be faster anyway.
You would need some external interfacing hardware as the Game Boy camera outputs an analogue signal. It should be a fairly simple thing to do, though.

The four-level greyscale comes from the Game Boy's display, not the camera (as mentioned above, it outputs an analogue signal). That said, to represent a four-level image you'd only need two pictures; two bits per pixel gives you four different combinations (00, 01, 10 and 11).
ah, ok thanks for explaining that.
Ben of course beat me to all the salient points that I was going to mention, including the analog output and the two layers needed for 4-level (and 3-level) grayscale. I would like to see someone attempt this at one point, though. Smile
I have two GBCameras if anyone with the skillset wants to try it.
I guess for huge space one could use msd8x somehow? Just putting that out there Smile

Yup, you could do that; the problem would be doing it fast enough. I doubt that the camera takes pictures larger than the calc's RAM, though.
good point, I bet that there could be a way to take the photo and convert it to a 8xi. It would be hard though...

I think that you should give it a try! Where did you find the pinout of the camera?
Maybe I will once I'm more familiar asm programming. The camera takes 128x128 pictures, so size isn't a problem, just cut off the top and/or bottom 32 pixels.

You wanna send me one?

Now my curiosity is getting piqued as well...
gCn Skype! Too bad there aren't more i/o ports Sad

That's an awesome idea. Very Happy Well, if Direct USB gCn works, then we could have video-only chatting over gCn. Smile
