As many of you probably know already, the Senate swung back republican in the last election about 2 weeks ago. There isn't a socialist tendency in the law-making process anymore hopefully. There should be pseudo-balance in the government for the next 2 years. For example, New Mexico (where I live) is ALWAYS a democratic state. Has been for 80 years or so. But THIS election, the people voted in a Republican Senate AND Governor. I take it as a sign that there are good times coming up for America. What do you guys think?
I think at this point, anything can happen. It is good we got the progressives out of there, though. Hopefully the Bush tax cuts will get extended, the health care bill revoked and NAFTA and GAT shut down, life might start looking up for America.

I hear that some of the senators and such are going to kill off the Czars that Obama appointed, as they are unconstitutional entities (the word Czar, as it is capilatized, means emperor). So hopefully some good things are coming our way again.
Obama was extremely worried in this last election. He was talking all kinds of crap about the Republicans, and HE WASN'T EVEN RUNNING! I think he knows whats coming. The balance really puts me at ease. Ahhh. Amen to everything you said.
I'm curious if you guys think that the moment Obama leaves office, that his health care bill will be reverted. If so, I wonder what will happen to people like me who suddenly were granted a reprieve on the end of their health insurance (age restrictions lifted); will I suddenly lose my health coverage? I know people on both sides of the fence are vehement about their positions, but sometimes I wish all the posturing didn't seem so far from the actual issues and people that said posturing affects.

My issues on the health care reform is all the taxes that it imposes, and that it isnt voluntary. I'm sorry, but I don't feel it is my duty to pay extra taxes out each month that I can't afford to pay for other people to go to the doctor. As I get sick once every 3 years or so, I don't really need the health care.

The extra taxes and paperwork that businesses have to pay is staggering, when things are broken down. Businesses will be forced to lay off employees because of the extra costs. :< And they don't have to wait for him to be out of office, I am pretty sure. It's a matter of proving it unconstitutional and getting the supreme court system to see it as such, acknowledge it and rescind the bill, no doubt in its entirety.

I agree the health care system needs fixing, but Obama's plan was definitely not the answer.
And then there's all the fine print in the bill which we'll apparently find out about later Razz

Actually, the plan Obama originally decided on the month or so after he was inagurated was a near perfect. If Republicans would have done more than say "No" for months and months and months then maybe it would have gotten somewhere. And in reality Obama should have grown some balls and just did what every president does, go over the head of the other party, to get what they feel is right done. That way everyone can bitch more about it all. Not that people don't bitch enough as it is. I am always confused as to why, when Obama was still fighting all the 200+ lame duck bills, people were complaining he was only doing what Bush did, which is stupid because he was trying to stop those bills from going through, not passing them himself. But that is another tangent entirely.

I hate it all, and I think anyone who takes a firm stand in politics is stupid. These past two years have shattered any faith I had in most people I thought to have full and decent amounts of common sense entirely. All of the people, that five years ago would have been laughed out of the public eye, are now being taken seriously. And it's sickening to a physical degree.

I hear that, and I can certainly understand that. I'm equally miffed that a nice chunk of my hard-earned money goes to helping some people who have tried, failed, and are still trying, but also people who don't really care and mooch off the system. I pay my staggeringly high taxes on what little stipend I earn as cheerfully as any American, and my health insurance premiums are certainly coming out of mine or my family's pockets, not the government's (and the taxpayers'), but I'm mostly concerned about repeated abrupt changes in policy screwing everyone over.
Wow... where to start.

No, the house did. I'm not sure if you know this, but we have a bicameral congress. There is the Senate, and the House of Representatives. The SENATE is still in Democratic control. The HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES is now under Republican control. Sheesh. This right here basically makes me think that you don't really have a clue. I really should just stop now.

There is a balance or there isn't. You can't have a "pseudo-balance." Things won't change much. Why? Because the Democrats held onto their power the last congressional cycle by catering to moderate Democrats who were often Republicans in everything but name. They could hardly get anything truly progressive accomplished. All this cycle does is give the Republicans chairmanship of committees in the house: a negligible benefit at best because of a Democratic Senate and Presidency.

If by "good times" you mean "market de-regulation and subsequent recession." Sounds great!

I hope Obamacare gets repealed. There is just too much in there that gives more power to the government. It is unprecedented for the federal govt to fine and/or imprison someone for declining to "purchase" a healthcare product. Technically, the age restrictions were not lifted; they were extended to the age of 26. There are some things I like about Obamacare -- I'm in favor of the part of the health care law that prevents insurance companies from using previous health conditions when determining whether or not they will cover you. I'm in favor of limiting increases in premiums. And if Obamacare was so "great", why has the federal govt given over 100 waivers to companies/unions? A bit hypocritical I think.

I've worked at Lockheed for 10 years now and I have seen my healthcare choices drop from 8 plans to now just 1 plan. I thought Obamacare was going to prevent that.

I understand your concerns Kerm -- there just has to be a better way. But Medicare is going bankrupt, Social Security is going bankrupt, Fannie and Freddie are receiving multiple bailouts... seems like everything the federal govt attempts to manage themselves fails. The simple extrapolation is that Obamacare will go bankrupt or bankrupt the country.

Amen to that.

Interesting... The last I looked we are STILL in a recession -- unless 10% unemployment is the new norm.
I'm surprised no one has called this retard out on his czar comment yet, since Czar is NOT an official position, but a title given by our lovely media for a kind of high-level advisory we've had, in the exact same amounts, since the beginning of the Bush Administration. The term "czar" is only used because it's shorter and more fun to say than their long and awkward official titles. Get your shit straight or get out.

Why? They managed to stop the massive economic damage done by the Republicans. Sure, the dems haven't got us out of the hole yet, but at least we aren't digging anymore.

You realize that the only reason the Bush tax cuts exist is because Bush's major supporters were rich, right? It had nothing to do with helping the country, just with the rich trying to get richer.

Like dshiznit said, "czar" was just a nickname given by the media. There is *nobody* with "Czar" anywhere in their title in the US government. Likewise, it had nothing to do with Obama either, as the use originated during Franklin Roosevelt's term (1933). Likewise, Bush appointed just as many "czars" as Obama did.

Stop watching Fox News and you just might start learning some facts.
You guys do realize nothing is gonna change, right? The people taking power have stated they have no interest in compromise, so there isn't going to be "balance", just more gridlock and bickering.
