I think it's well-established that viri, malware, botnets, and such are serious crimes and generally overseen by serious criminal organizations, is it not? I don't know if I quite agree that there's a problem of cybercrime (and cyberwarfare) not being taken seriously...? allynfolksjr wrote:

Actually, I am indeed equally interested what your take on the issue is, Elfprince, since you brought it up.
I think "Cybercrimes" are often significantly under-hyped relative to other crimes with similar potential economic impact, and "Cyberwarfare" is often significantly over-hyped. It may be useful to differentiate between crimes/warfare in the physical world and online, but only if the general public (including policy makers, excluding intelligent tech-savvy people) maintains a proper understanding of proportionality between them.

Fair enough, I agree that the general public has a far insufficient understanding of the various types of cybercrime and how they're related to and different from traditional crime, but I don't feel that the existing categories of cybercrime are insufficient. - benryves

Men are "serious crimes and generally overseen by serious criminal organizations"? That's slightly worrying. Do you mean "viruses"? đ -
