Our prominent member and ASM coder Iambian has been hard at work repairing his erstwhile laptop's LCD connector after at least five of the wires in the motherboard-to-LCD cable broke, making it nearly impossible to use. He's finished up the preliminary repair, and it looks like it was a success! Images below.

Nearly fix'd. Just gotta put back all those unimportant screws.
You'd almost be surprised as to how I got them to fit. Truth is that it almost didn't.

Haha, I am very well used to that particular conundrum, and almost always have at least one screw left over after I put a gadget as complex as a laptop back together.
Thing is, I also had exactly one screw left. I knew where it went, too, but it became pointless after putting all them wires together. It had one of them strips that kept the LCD wire grounded or something like that. Not needed, since it had liek ten billion different grounds.
Ah yes, one of the annoying things in my eeePC is a little copper foil grounding strip that is the hotbutton bar's only ground, and which I always forget to re-stick until after I put the machine back together and discover that none of the hotkeys work. :/ Glad your extra screw wasn't important, and moreover that you knew where it went.
