I'm trying to get Trillian, my favorite IM program, to run under WINE on a x86_64 (64-bit) Ubuntu 10.10 machine. It runs, but it fails to connnect to the internet, although Ubuntu itself can access the internet. Also, it used to work on 32-bit Ubuntu. Killer-Bob's second post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=765719 gives a solution that worked for other people, but it does not work for me. I've tried BOTH methods.

My question is: are there any experienced Linux users that have any idea what may be going on?

Even if you don't know what's going on, it's okay. I can always revert to 32-bit Ubuntu if necessary (it's better anyway; Flash has no 64-bit Linux version available ATM; I had to find a link from somebody else's server at http://nxadm.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/install-64-bit-adobe-flash-player-on-ubuntu-904/; the beta version was closed, and Adobe still hasn't released the final version. I'm sure my version is FULL of bugs, security holes, and glitches.)

Anyway, please help if you can...

SOLUTION: I upgraded the kernel and it broke. Upon booting into the old kernel, it worked again. xD

Just a point of clarification, is 10.10 a typo, or are you a bleeding-edge beta-tester?

Alpha 3... not beta OR RC yet, so yeah, I guess I've gone quite bleeding-edge with the Maverick Meerkat (codename for 10.10)

And.... this is why I run Arch Linux, fixed releases cycles are kinda dumb on Linux Desktops IMO.

Yeah, but Ubuntu keeps all programs updated with an update manager, so that they only need the fixed releases for MAJOR design changes.
