Description

After about a week of very hard work, I present BOOMTANK.
The objective is simple: OBLITERATE the enemy. Take aim and fire, but watch the power meter above you, as it can make all the difference!
Explode the other tank three times to win. You'll find yourself developing a strategy to maneuver your missile across the randomly-generated terrain. Here's a hint: 45 degrees!
With 21 randomized death messages, you'll keep coming back for more EXPLOSIVE action.
So DOWNLOAD this game and PLAY it! You shan't regret.

I was reminded of shell shock live and worms while playing this game due to the sprites, terrain gen, and destruction. The gameplay is very simplistic though, there is no horizontal motion, secondary projectile, or health. There is vertical motion due to terrain destruction underneath the enemy before they respawn (3 lives) which may force the player to adjust their aim. The AI is not challenging and there is very little room to improve as a player. There is a bit of strategy to the game due to random terrain generation and terrain destruction. Sometimes terrain will be in the way of both tanks and if a tank overestimates its projectile trajectory it could be blocked by the terrain and simultaneously open a gap for the enemy to fire.

If there is anything outstanding about this game is that it is entirely programmed in TI-BASIC. I asked the author about this choice because it is nearly an esoteric language and he said he developed the game while in school mostly on the calculator. This is a productive use of time and I like autodidacts, so I'm factoring this into the rating.

Additionally I must raise the score because it is a unique game, not a copy of something else. As nice as some of the mario clones on the website are, and as difficult as assembly can be to work with, at the end of the day they are just copies of existing games.

Although I don't believe this game is a 10/10 must have experience, it is more interesting than some of the games on the front page which are all around 9/10 to 10/10.

I feel like the terrain destruction could be faster in TI-BASIC so I will give a 9/10.
