So if I understand, heu, we will not be able to post but our forum accounts will still exist. So will we need to create a new account?

(I don't understand very oftenly)

The word account is not referring to accounts on this forum but ftp and ssh accounts elsewhere on the server this forum is on.

This forum and other http web services will not be affected.

Here is the deal.

Aug 1st FTP and SSH access will be locked down. Email and HTTP and MySQL will remain operational. In other words, the forum, the website, and email will be available.

On the 3rd, there will be a brief scheduled downtime when the server undergoes some minor upgrades and a scheduled OS upgrade.

Durring this time, the OS, Webserver, PHP, MySQL, Email and all other services will be installed clean and with new, fully patched versions. Full service should be restored on the 3rd.

The reason we are doing a lockdown is for security reasons in addition to making it possible to get a complete SnAppShot of all the data all accounts have, so nothing is lot.

We will keep you apprised.

The New OS is a tad more optimized, the new OS drive is about 1.5 to 3 times faster allowing for quicker access as well. In addition, Apache has been slightly optimized and PHP 4.4.x is faster. I should also mention that we went from MySQL 4.0.x skipped over 4.1.x and went all the way to 5.0.x.

Essentially, the server, the webserver software, PHP, and the SQL Database are all faster, more secure, more reliable, and optimized.

Jon is going to work on getting the mail server up after work today.
