Hello all! I just started learning Ti-Basic on my TI-84 plus SE around september last year. I just posted my first WIP game at http://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7626. I'm also learning Java on my own, but so far that has been somewhat challenging. I guess you could say I'm 'relaxing' by learning TI-basic. haha |

Welcome to Cemetech, patrickgh3, great to have you here. We have a lot of Java and TI-BASIC experts here (for better or worse, I have been a Java instructor in years past), so I hope we'll be able to help you along with your programming. Your game looks fun so far, and I wish you success in continuing it. Have you noticed the SAX chat client over on the left? _________________

Would you be interested in learning to program your own games? What sort of games are you seeking? _________________

Hello,
I've been programming for quite awhile and a experienced in a variety of programming languages including but not limited to C/C++, Assembly(SH, x86), ruby.
My current project that I've been working on for awhile has been trying to reverse engineer as much as I can about the EXword line of Casio Japanese-English electronic dictionaries. I originally started several years ago by figuring out how the usb transfer protocol works and writing a library called libexword that allows installing and removing the various add-on dictionaries available from Casio. More recently I've been working on figuring out how the hardware in the devices work. Somewhat interestingly the newer dictionaries (post-2009) use the same custom SH4A chip that the prizm calculators use. |

Hi, I'm here because someone told me you guys were great with calculator programs and could help with my problems. I really don't have any experience with calculators except for the times I've used them in classes.
I actually just want to install games on my calculator because sometimes AP Stats gets boring... |

Welcome to Cemetech, sayway, it's great to have you with us! We're happy to help you get programs and games onto your graphing calculators, but we also love getting people to love programming, for calculators or for computers, so let us know if you have any credentials or dream languages or projects in that area. _________________

Hello brijohn! Welcome to Cemetech (a tad late, but it's still in the thread)! I already see that you are helping out the Prizm coding here and am surprised (sortof) that the same CPU is used in other Casio products. I would be even more surprised if the base OS was the same...
Also, hello saywat and welcome! Hehe, nice to see that someone recommended us. For installing games, there is a thread on that... (A news article iirc) We have an archive of games here (too lazy to link to it), although not overflowing (http://ticalc.org/). I am sure that someone here would recommend that you use/learn TI-BASIC to make classes less uninteresting _________________ °ᴥ° Get Lucky

Indeed, and that someone might selfishly recommend that if you needed a guide to help make programming (and programming TI-BASIC) fun for you, that there might be a book that might make it fun. I don't know who that self-serving someone might be, though. Also, AHelper, I share your welcome and thanks to brijohn for his current and hopefully continuing contributions to our Prizm knowledge. _________________

Hehe, that's a very interesting method of handing out advertisements of a book, giving it to new members I would recommend this other book, but that's a bit over the top.
(This isn't the right place to ask, but...) How is said book progressing? _________________ °ᴥ° Get Lucky

Chapters 1 through 10 are written. Chapters 11 through 13 (11. Hybrid BASIC, 12. z80 ASM, 13. Now What) are still left to write. Chapters 1-6 are out for MEAP, Chapters 1-9 are out for the 2/3 Review. Appendices A and C are done, Appendix B is pending. I'll have a solid two or three weeks or work starting tomorrow cut out for me. _________________

Hi,
I've been known as Glok/Gonika.
I really have no experience with coding.
I'm 14 and I've been working my a off to get through school so I can possibly get to college while I'm still young (Probably when I'm 16) |

Welcome to Cemetech, Glok/Gonika/Night-Sky! I understand that DShiznit brought you here. Do you play Freebuild/TBM/TBG, or do you know him from elsewhere? Glad to hear that you're working so hard. Do you have any interest in programming, hardware development, and related things, or not so much? _________________

Hello!
I am currently a high school senior. I have only programmed in basic on my ti84+ but have been interested in ASM because of, what appears, to be a major upside especially for calculator programming. Mostly, my programs have been specifically for my classes and right now my main "project" is an overall AP Stats program which is specific to my needs. This is more or less the largest program I have created, so most of my code is pretty basic with just menus, inputs, calculations, and outputs. I do want to continue progressing my programming skill, however, in case I come to a point where I want to make a more complex program.
I also have some experience with Java (AP Computer Science and some low level competition programming). My primary strength in programming, however, comes in Labview. I have used it for the last four years for the FIRST robotics competitions, so its where I have been focused so far. In the future - ie college - my programming will probably be C++ so I would like to get a head start on that sometime soon as well. |

Welcome to Cemetech, rubbateckie; great to have you with us. As far as TI-BASIC programming goes, I'm glad to hear you're finding SourceCoder useful, and I invite you to post any questions you may have. We have plenty of passionate TI-BASIC coders, and it sounds like you're well on your way to becoming another one. z80 assembly is also a great language, and I and others have found it to be fun and challenging. Have you started learning it yet? If you haven't, I recommend ASM in 28 Days as a tutorial and (although biased) the Doors CS SDK for your build environment, since it has everything you'll need built-in and works in 32- and 64-bit Windows/OS X/Linux. Finally, I heartily support your choice of C++ as a computer programming language to learn; I know Java and teach it as an instructor, but I'm very not a fan. _________________

| Thanks Kerm and thanks for doing such amazing work with SourceCoder2, this website, and the calculator programming community in general. Thanks for the recommendations and I will take a look into those. After finding SourceCoder, I was actually most excited to see Doors CS and its SDK. As you can tell I have limited programming experience so its awesome to have such a great programming utility so easily available. So thank you and the rest of the Cemetech community! Thank you, I have been told that if I want to continue in programming in the future, C++ is one of the most vital languages. I am planning to go into Electrical Engineering, and probably having a focus in Computer Science. |

I'm glad to hear that my projects are of help to you. Two of my degrees are in EE, and one is in CS, so I certainly support your choice of academic foci. _________________
