This is more an information post then searching for help.
I installed Windows 7 on a computer, and ended up with the 8024402c error code coming back from Windows update. I found this very strange, as I've never seen this with this install disc.
Thinking that it was a broken install, I reinstalled Windows again. Came back with the same error code. So digging around led me to a few sites, https://codeimprovements.wordpress.com/2012/11/21/solving-error-8024402c-for-windows-update/ and http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2399349/solving-error-8024402c.html mostly. I briefly looked through Windows Help, but we all know how truly helpful that is.
Anyways, after running all the diagnostics and such, going step by step as what was suggested, I found that the issue was the DNS server, as was described in the last post by the user with the problem. Changed over to google's DNS and now windows update is working properly.
Following the information in the first link led me to not even seeing the full registry path that the author of the article wanted me to take, not really sure what to make of that. And now that I have it working, it's still not there.
Anyways, hope this was helpful and informative to some degree!
