I, for one, am greatly saddened by this. It's been my homepage for 7 years, and I'm unaware of any replacement functionality for those of us who don't use Chrome or a Droid. Does anyone else use iGoogle, or have feelings on the issue?

Not so much. I don't use a homepage in my browser and when I visit google I just visit the default search page.

But I certainly enjoyed the widgets and other integration. I think I stopped using iGoogle when they took out Notebook.

This is what I use it for. Search, email, and all of the news I care about conveniently located in one place.

I get my mail and news/articles (RSS) via Mail.app. I do lack web search but Spotlight helps me there. Which is also why I lack a homepage. My home page is a blank tab, not my top sites or bookmarks in display. Just a blank page.

I'm likely in the minority of whom use Spotlight on OS X and/or iOS for web searches as well as stock apps but, that's not what this topic is about.

I adore Spotlight, but in this case it doesn't give me what I want/need, which is a consistent interface across multiple computers and operating systems. And Mail.app is fine for mail, but if I'm scanning for news I don't want to have to click through all of the separate feeds; I just want them dumped in front of me.

I've been using iGoogle as my homepage since I discovered its existence. It's great for seeing what's going on at a glance without the obligation to see everything of a traditional RSS reader.

I did a little searching for something that acts substantially the same, and it looks like Netvibes is nearly a drop-in replacement.

I still have the default Firefox Google-powered search page as my homepage, but I can't say I really use it for anything. Probably 50% of the time I open up Cemetech's New Posts page, other than checking my email and Facebook, but luckily I have my email pinned as an App Tab.

Heh, I am not too saddened by this. I use startpage for 90% of searches, and only use google when i have to. I do use google maps and google apps.

I have a blogger account for my calc blog (which, sadly, has not been posted in for a LONG time).

I don't have a homepage, i have "open windows and tabs from last session".

Opera is nice because I can put all my email in an app tab. I also use opera a lot for IRC.

So, yeah, i think that I won't be missing iGoogle.

Also, i am thinking about making my own blog software so i do not have to use google, and maybe finding an alternative to apps.

I did find a great alternative to google analytics, which, frankly, i think is quite bloated. It is statcounter.com.

Hmm, i wonder if that post sounded spammy...

If it did, admin, feel free to edit it. Smile

That's good to know. I'll have to check it out - thanks for the tip Smile

Unlikely I'm going to miss this at all; I don't use a homepage and haven't for years. I just boot up Chrome to a blank page and just go to my normal list of sites by typing urls.

That link to the site that Tari threw, however, seems interesting so perhaps I'll try that out for a short while.
