Welcome to Cemetech, Kalkenstein! Have you read Casio Prizm: Why TI Calc Coders Should Abandon the Nspire CX? From your personal experience, do you have any thoughts on the relative merits of the Nspire and the Prizm? I look forward to seeing your projects and progress with either or both calculators.

Hello, I'm Art_of_camelot. I joined here after UTI got absorbed by the giant machine that is Cemetech. You may have seen me around Omnimaga as I am a mod there. I'm also a memeber at Maxcoderz and Revsoft. I've been meaning to join here for a while, but I never seemed to get around to it. When I first stumbled upon Cemetech I disliked the site layout and design. It seemed rather cluttered and hard to navigate so I never joined. It has much improved with the current rendition, and I quite like it. I taught myself html eons ago, but I have no use for it these days and have forgotten much of it. I know some TI-BASIC, but I only dabble here and there. I am familiar with the tiniest bit of Z80 ASM, and may eventually get around to learning it one of these days. C++ would also be fun to learn (I also learned a tiny bit of this a while ago). I love portable devices, so I have a gaggle of graphing calculators I've collected over the years. I have most of TI's models in one form or another,(minus the nSpire) and the most recent addition to my collection was a Casio Prizm.

Welcome to Cemetech! To be honest, I have wondered in the past why you never stopped by, since you seemed to be quite active in the rest of the community. Great to have you.

Fair enough; not everyone has the same interface design preferences. Smile

If you do, feel free to ask all the questions large and small that you want here.

You should return to C/C++ for your Prizm!

Glad that you also don't have an Nspire. Wink What have you done with your Prizm thus far?

I have plans to do 1 or 2 games for prizm in summer, maybe a gangstar crime city "clone"

what do you think, the calculator hardware can support it?

@Kerm: I won't support the nSpire. Although I can understand TI's stance on it, they pretty much turned their backs on years of hobbyists supporting them. Not to mention they finally gave a calculator decent hardware only to make it a (more or less)closed platform.

As for the Prizm, I haven't done much with it yet aside from checking out a few programs. I thought the Prizm only supported C though, not C++. Is there C++ support now as well?

*Edit* Forgot to mention that I do some pixel art as well. Smile

Heartily agreed. I assume you've perused my editorial on the topic?

Anything that supports C supports C++ as well; it's just an issue of compiling a compiler for the platform. I know that AHelper prefers to write his Prizm code as C++; I personally prefer to do it in C.

You should show some of it off in one of our many Art/Photoshop/Pixel Art threads!

I did see your article in regards to the nSpire being a closed platform. I thought it was a nice read. Smile

It's good to know that C or C++ can be used for developing on the Prizm.

I'm sure I'll get around to posting some of it eventually. My avatar is a reworked and downsized sprite from Mega man II that I also converted to gray.

Heya and welcome here Art of Camelot. Also to be honest I like your Cemetech avatar better than your Omnimaga one. Very Happy

I personally liked the Cemetech Lite theme actually, but the current one is my favorite.

@DJ: It was actually out of necessity. Size limitation on avatars appears to be more strict here(perhaps for new members?). However, I will agree. I think it looks really nice. I might change it on Omni as well. Very Happy

It's for everyone. Our logic is that quality posts full of informative content are what a forum is all about, so we limit the size of avatars and signatures to make the content stand out more.

That is actually why over the past few months I've been trying to compact my signature content as much as possible, hence the smaller and smaller images. I actually use the same sig on Omnimaga, except that there are several more (tiny) links below my userbars.

I was supposed to use buttons for my two music albums too then put all 4 images on one single line, but I just couldn't find a way to fit the text in without them looking too weird and resizing the original text made it unreadable. D:

Lastly, avoid posting in succession within 24 hours. After which, it's perfectly fine to double post Smile

Well, I started relearning TI Basic from scratch for the purposes of this program, so it started simple, just giving decimal approximations and telling whether the solutions were rational/irrational and real/complex. (I never have figured out how to accurately tell if the answers are rational or not given irrational coefficients. Any ideas?) Then I wrote an unrelated program to reduce numbers under a square root, and I realized I could combine the two to get exact quadratic solutions.
However, large determinants take a REALLY long time to try to reduce, so I tried several different ways to speed up that algorithm finally settling on one that I haven't seen anyone else think of.
I've always wanted prettier output, but the Disp command won't output fractions, so finally I'm in the middle of a massive rewrite to give exact fractional answers. I found an algorithm on ticalc.org for changing decimals to fractions, although it gives fractions for some common irrationals like √2, so I combined it with another algorithm of my own. The finished decimal=>fraction program still fails on some irrationals like (I think) 2√7, but it refuses to fractionize pi, e or √2. I rewrote everything to get results my old way mostly and then just fractionize the answers, but now I want it to treat fractions like fractions from the beginning, because I realized something tonight.
Let's say (2,2,2 means 2x²+2x+2...
(1,2,3 has the same solutions as (2,4,6 but with a different determinant and therefore a different running time. That was already in my program, but I just realized that (1/5,2/5,3/5 also has the same solutions, so I'm going to try several different variations on the equation to try to minimize the discriminant. I have to reduce two numbers for fractions though. For example (10,15,6 has the same solutions as (1/2,1/3,1/5 but the fractions might run quciker. Anyone know any good decimal=>fraction algorithms or irrationalism test algorithms that are especially accurate on the TI-84+?

That looks great, and I see no reason why the Prizm wouldn't support that level of detail(although you might want to overclock it for best results).

I believe it would depend of the color depth. If the program has several 16 bit sprites and tiles, as well as pictures, then memory might be a problem. If you use compression and not too many sprites at once, then I guess it might be OK.

I'm ruler501 I joined after seeing this was one of the main sites for Prizm dev which I have recently started trying to work on. I originally was on omnimaga. I can write reasonably good code in C/++ and python. I have a small understanding of java and C# also. I own a prizm and an nspire(got it before I found out how locked down TI made it).

I currently am working on a nspire/prizm program that i just started today.

Welcome to Cemetech, Ruler501; it's great to have you with us. I'm glad to hear you have a decent amount of experience with C, C++, and Python, and I'm excited that you're interested in joining us for Prizm development. Be sure to grab the PrizmSDK and set it up, let us know if you have any questions, and hang out with us on SAX (over <--- there) and/or IRC (#cemetech on EfNet).

Turns out that this was a bot. The signature advertised language translation services. Human-driven bots are fortunately or unfortunately the only kind that we get these days. Sad
