Oooh! Another tiling Window Manager guy! I'll have to try out i3, though I am really liking dwm. Musca comes in, probably, third place, dwm as second, and StumpWM as first. I'm not exactly a fan of Musca because of the way it behaves with my dual monitors, as well as it not having a bar on the top. StumpWM is awesome because it is written in Lisp, so I can configure it really easily and just re-eval. I also really, really like your transparent terminals. You'll have to tell us how you did that Very Happy

You can always add a bar to Musca. I like it on small screens (eg my netbook) specifically because I get maximal screen real-estate, and I rarely have more than a few windows open on that machine. I've never tried i3, but it looks rather neat. If you're a Haskell geek rather than Lisp-type, I've been running xmonad on one machine, which is a tiler written and configured in Haskell.

I assume he's using urxvt (because it's the One True Terminal Emulator Razz), in which case a few lines in your .Xdefaults file is enough to turn on transparency for all instances of urxvt.

gnome terminal lets you do it quite painlessly as well, just go to your preferences.

I like my Yakuake pop-down terminal. It's very handy, is available on all workspaces. and doesn't occupy window space.

Here's a generic screenie (not from my PC, but it's not too different)

Rocking i3 now, since I decided I can be much more productive if I do my day-to-day operating in Linux.

Quite the work space Tari, is that third monitor on the right an old CRT/Squareish one or is the resolution set at a different size?

Since that was the day I got my computer, it of course was. Today, it more or less looks like this.

With only one Desktop now and (in order from left) IRC, Web, Mail, Music & my Calendar in day/agenda view in full screen mode.

Looks pretty spiffy! Too bad you're stuck with the Vista-esque version of an OS that goes for form over function, though. Sad

I'm not so sure; It's got plenty of function. You should try OS X one day and see that it's got as much function as it does form ;D

The two main ones run at 1680x1050, and the third workspace is a spare 1280x1024 panel in portrait orientation.

Ah! That explains that unused gap at the bottom of the other two there. I was stopping myself from seeing/acknowledging anything under that as well, and I see the third monitor as a rectangle and not a square now. Haha. Rolling Eyes

New Laptop == New chance to keep things organized. Hence:

I still haven't had the chance to put all the junk software that comes with the computer into a folder called "junkish crap" (I know, it's like 15 second's work, but I'm too lazy)

The background is very nice, I'll admit it's sometimes hard to see the icons, but I actually like it that way so \o/

0x5, desktop icons, people still use those. XP

But seriously my desktop is bare and rotates through one of over 1000 images so posting a screenshot is kinda pointless...

My desktop is filled to the brim with icons. It's my dumping ground for files, of sorts. Since I started this habit in Gnome, I just used shortcuts to frequently-used stuff on the top menu bar instead of the desktop. I rarely see my desktop anyway. But ever since I "upgraded" from Fedora 14 to 15 with its Gnome 3 (gag), I now run xfce as my DE.

No, it means you need to post over 1000 screenshots! Razz

My laptop's current desktop. I recently changed the desktop background because a virus thought it would be fun to remove my desktop background, but the previous one was also Doctor Who-themed.
