Speaking of DirectX, how about having it as a second rendering system on the Windows platform? It's much faster and more polished than OpenGL.

Doesn't that polish come at a cost, though? And again we have the problem of the developers maintaining multiple rendering systems simultaneously.

No shit, the full name is DirectX Box.

Also, OpenGL, in the right hands, does draw faster than DirectX. I found this to be true when I first ran TBM on a computer with a decent video card that could run at 100+ fps when in OpenGL mode...
